Indian Creek Residence — Luxury Residential Lighting Design, California
Some homes are built to impress. This one was built to hold something more.
Indian Creek is a hillside sanctuary in California, a home designed around faith, family, and the kind of stillness that's increasingly hard to find. When AM Light Studio came on board alongside Nina Magon Studio and Winn Wittman Architecture, the brief was clear: the lighting had to serve the life being lived here, not announce itself.
That's a harder ask than it sounds. A home this architecturally rich, with bold horizontal planes, floor-to-ceiling glass, and richly layered interiors, could easily tip into spectacle. The challenge was restraint with intention. Every lighting decision had to earn its place by making something else more beautiful, not by drawing attention to itself.
In practice, that means light that feels like it belongs to the architecture rather than being applied to it. Cove lighting that traces the geometry of a ceiling. A warm glow that spills through glass walls and becomes part of the home's exterior presence at dusk. Fixtures placed not where they're easiest to install, but where they're least likely to be noticed. Because the marble, the wood, the art, and the views are what deserve to be seen.
The result is a home where light shifts with the family. Bright enough for gathering, quiet enough for reflection. Different needs. One cohesive lighting language.
That's what we came here to do.
